About the Course

This course is aimed at the aspiring professional digital marketer who wishes to gain knowledge and skills to succeed and progress within a career in marketing.  Successful completion will equip the student with the knowledge, skills and understanding to support decision making within a digital context at an operational level and carry out an essential and successful professional marketing role within the workplace.

This course is made up of 3 units, which you can study as a whole under this certificate, or you can chose to study and pay for each unit individually:


The CIM Level 4 Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing is aimed at the aspiring professional marketer who wishes to gain knowledge and skills to succeed and progress within a career in marketing.  

Some typical job titles may include: marketing executive, marketing officer, marketing communications executive, communications specialist, digital marketing executive, digital and social media executive, content marketing executive and display advertising executive.

Your Course

What modules are covered?

The course consists of three modules; Applied Marketing, Planning Campaigns and Digital Marketing Techniques.

In Applied Marketing, you will learn about the role of marketing in the organisation and the key concepts that underpin the activities of the marketer. You will explore the marketing environment, customer behaviour in the digital age, market research and the marketing planning process. This will include the marketing mix and a tactical planning framework to aid marketing effectiveness.

Planning Campaigns gives you the knowledge and skills to plan and implement successful campaigns that deliver real results for an organisation. You will learn the campaign planning process including how to analyse an organisation’s current position. You will also learn how to set campaign objectives, implement a campaign then measure and evaluate its success to aid continuous improvement in the fast-changing world of marketing.

Finally, Digital Marketing Techniques focuses on the importance of the ever-evolving, dynamic digital landscape. You will develop skills to improve digital marketing performance and explore the challenges and opportunities within the digital environment. You will also use a range of tools to plan how to enhance an organisation’s effectiveness in the digital age.

How will I be assessed?
  • Applied Marketing – an online examination comprising multiple-choice questions. 
  • Planning Campaigns – an assignment based on a theme and an organisation of choice.  
  • Digital Marketing Techniques – an assignment based on a theme and an organisation of choice.

What Next?

Once you have successfully completed the CIM Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing you can progress to the CIM Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing.

Entry Requirements

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

Students are expected to have suitable qualifications at level 3 (for example A levels) or level 4 (degree). Work experience in a marketing role is also preferable, though not essential.  All potential students are required to meet with the Course Manager prior to enrolment to ensure that it is the right course fit for you.

One or more of the following is required to gain entry onto this qualification:  

  • CIM Level 3 Introductory Certificate in Marketing qualification or CIM Level 3 Foundation
  • Certificate in Marketing or CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Professional Marketing
  • or CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing
  • any relevant Level 3 qualification 
  • any UK Degree or International equivalent  
  • International Baccalaureate (equivalent to NQF Level 3 and above) 
  • professional practice (suggested one year in a marketing role) and diagnostic assessment onto Level 4
