Part-time Students
Part-time Higher Education students are eligible for a tuition fee loan. Studying part-time could give you flexibility over the way you study, boost your career prospects and allow you to learn while you earn. The online student finance calculator will give you an idea of what loans and support is available.
What you will need to pay back
Your loan repayments will be based on your income, not what you borrowed.

Applying for Student Finance
You can apply for student finance from the February before your degree is due to start. You should apply by May to get the money before the start of your course, but you can still apply after that. Applications are made online at the Student Finance website, where you can find full information on Student Finance and how to apply.
University Centre Farnborough Bursary

Exceptional Hardship Bursary
This fund is available for Higher Education students who have exhausted all other avenues of funding. The fund may be allocated as a bursary or as a loan depending on the level of financial need.

Adult Dependents’ Grant
Full-time students in higher education with an adult who depends on them financially can apply for an Adult Dependants’ Grant of up to £2,757.

Totum Card
All students are entitled to apply for a Totum card, this costs from as little as £14.99 and gives students the use of SU facilities across the country. Being a member of the National Union of Students (NUS) also gives you access to a range of discounts at well-known high street stores, visitor attractions and cinemas along with some ethically sourced products. You can now also purchase with age ID (all the great features of TOTUM with the bonus of PASS verified proof of age ID card) Membership is available for all students, whether part-time, full-time, on day release or short courses, over or under 18. To apply you need your enrolment certificate, a passport-size photo, photo ID and payment. Also, for any card purchased Totum give back to the University Centre which goes towards enrichment and events.

Bus passes:
The University Centre can only offer Stagecoach season tickets, if you need to use other bus operators then we cannot offer discounted ticket options for those operators.
The bus tickets are smart cards and can be ordered directly from the Stagecoach website.
StudentRider Bus Pass
Full-time students can purchase a ‘StudentRider’ bus pass from Stagecoach for less than the standard season tickets. The ticket allows travel across Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire throughout the academic year. For Farnborough students, the annual fee is £495 or you can buy them on a term-by-term basis (Autumn £197, Spring £191 & Summer £135). You will need your student ID number (this can be found on your student ID card or your joining letter).
Students applying for a discounted Student Rider bus pass
You must email support@farn-ct.ac.uk to request a discount code to receive this discount. Please let us know in the email whether you need one for the full-year ticket (from 1st September 2022 to 31st August 2023 or the autumn term ticket (from 1st September 2022 to 31st December 2022).
How to apply
Please go to www.stagecoachbus.com and click on StudentTickets. Choose the ticket you wish to purchase and put it in your basket. Head to the checkout where you must register (sign up for an account) and ask for a smart card. Instructions will be supplied with the discount code.

Surrey Student Fare Card
The Surrey Student Fare Card scheme gives students aged 16-18 who live in Surrey reduced bus and/or rail travel to college. The annual fee for the card is £25; it saves you a third on season tickets. For further information and to see if you qualify, please visit the website

Train passes:
South West Trains Academic Season Pass
South West Trains offer reduced ticket prices to all full-time students who purchase an Academic Season Pass through the University Centre.
These passes must be purchased from the University Centre and are issued on a termly basis. Pricing is based on a zonal system set out by South West Trains.
You can buy your South West Trains Academic Season Pass online, from the 22nd August 2022 through the University Centre Store at http://estore.farn-ct.ac.uk/.

For students in receipt of a bursary who are applying for a Stagecoach StudentRider bus pass
The bursary team will send you a discount code as soon as your application has been approved. You can order your Smart Card bus pass directly from the Stagecoach website.
We can only provide Stagecoach bus pass, if you need to use another bus company, we are unable to provide ticket alternatives. In some cases, the student may need to buy their bus pass independently. The bursary will refund you financially, but the amount will be limited. Your approved funding letter for the bursary will make this clear.
During our peak application period during August and September, it can take up to four weeks to process your application and confirm if you have been awarded a bursary, so you will be responsible for any travel costs until your financial support is in place.

For students with a bursary applying for a South West Train Pass
We can only provide discounted seasoned tickets for South West trains; if you need to use other train operators, we are unable to provide ticket alternatives for other operators.
You will receive a letter from the bursary team informing you of the outcome of your application. Depending on your location and your funding requests, your rail pass might be totally funded, or you may have to pay a proportion of the ticket.
