We will provide you with an Adobe Creative Suite account, on which you can develop technical skills in a variety of industry-level software, although these will be applicable to many alternative platforms and software brands.
You will work in production roles such as vision mixing, lighting, scriptwriting, sound design, directing, and more. You will be encouraged to be innovative and cutting-edge during this course through creative projects.

During the year, initially at level 4, you learn the basics of planning a production and recording it for television and film. You will learn the fundamentals of writing a script based on a firm appreciation of the requirements to tell a story and convey information effectively. You will gain the knowledge needed to edit film and add post-production effects, including sound. You will learn about the commercial side of the media business and understand why streaming giants such as Netflix are successful.
At level 5, there is the opportunity to gain advanced skills in narrative, visual and audio style and apply them in productions such as documentary production. Live briefs designed to be as close to a work simulation as possible will aid you to develop a diverse set of skills and become equipped for a variety of careers, including cinematographer, sound recordist, as well as producer and director. You will have the chance to visit a film festival in London.
As you progress, you increasingly work independently but remain supported using supervision. You will develop and produce your own work. Opportunities exist to work in groups and individually to reflect how the industry is structured and operates. Each student will follow their own interests in film and broadcast media while developing a deeper understanding of creative, practical and commercial aspects of the film and broadcast industries. An understanding of how the media is organised globally will encourage an understanding of international film and television production.
