The PHOTOGRAPHY BA (HONS) DEGREE is designed for those passionate about photography and related creative fields, whether you are progressing from Level 3, A Level, or Access courses, returning to education, or transferring from another institution. The programme offers the flexibility of two full days per week, supporting a balance between study, work, and personal commitments.
Teaching combines class-led technical and theoretical study with practical assignments, encouraging you to respond visually to set briefs and develop your own independent style. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum, from photographic languages and key debates to fashion interactions, design for print, and collaborative production. As you advance, you will undertake a self-devised professional brief, an industrial placement, and a final major project, culminating in a portfolio that showcases your creative and professional growth.
Assessment is varied and robust, including portfolios, production reports, coursework, formal examinations, practical demonstrations, and presentations. Graduates are equipped with the skills, confidence, and creative vision to pursue careers across the photographic and wider creative industries, or to progress to further study.
This course is perfect if you have an interest in photography and other creative areas, and would like to pursue further study to enhance your current qualifications or kick-start a new career path. You might currently be studying a Level 3, A Level, or Access to Higher Education course; be returning to education after a break, or wish to transfer from another higher education institution. It may also be possible for you to join this course in its second or third year following relevant qualifications and/or experience in the workplace.

You will be taught through class-led technical and theoretical study. During each module you will produce a visual response to a set brief that is backed up with written research and evaluation. As the course progresses, greater emphasis is placed on you to build an independent visual language whilst at the same time placing a context to work produced.
Being taught over two full days per week, the course gives you more flexibility in balancing work or family commitments.
