We were proud to welcome back former student Lucy, whose incredible journey from university to becoming a Paralympic wheelchair tennis athlete left a lasting impression on students and staff alike. Her story is one of resilience, determination and the power of your mind.
Lucy’s journey has not been without adversity. Following a life-changing motorbike accident, her future took an unexpected and difficult turn. Through courage, determination and an unwavering commitment to recovery, she began a new path – one that would ultimately lead her to elite sport.
It was through wheelchair tennis that Lucy found a renewed sense of purpose. What started as part of her recovery quickly developed into a passion and eventually, a professional pursuit. Lucy shared how sport became more than just physical activity, providing focus and structure, a strong support network, a platform to challenge herself, and a renewed sense of identity and confidence. Her journey to becoming a Paralympic athlete is a testament to the impact that sport can have, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally.
