Through units such as ESG planning, organisational behaviour, budget management and a substantial research project, you will develop the capability to analyse data, evaluate risk and propose evidence‑based solutions in real business contexts.

You will take greater ownership of your learning, applying theory to complex scenarios and producing work that reflects industry expectations. Assessment remains coursework‑based, enabling you to demonstrate applied knowledge through projects, reports and research that mirror graduate‑level roles in sustainability and business management.

The Higher National Diploma (HND) is for you if you have completed a Level 4 qualification and want to progress your skills into more analytical, strategic and management‑focused areas of sustainable business practice. It suits:  People aiming for supervisory or junior management roles in sustainability, ESG or responsible business functions, where you need to evaluate performance, manage projects and contribute to organisational strategy. Those progressing from the HNC who are ready to develop deeper knowledge and independent thinking, and move from supporting tasks to shaping decisions and influencing outcomes. Learners planning to progress to a Level 6 degree, using the HND as a strong academic and professional bridge into final‑year undergraduate study. Adults in employment who want to step into greater responsibility, including roles linked to sustainability strategy, organisational development, operations, or stakeholder engagement.  The HND builds on core foundations and develops higher‑level skills such as critical analysis, research, leadership, decision‑making and strategic communication. These are essential for roles where you are expected to manage complexity, work with multiple stakeholders and contribute to long‑term organisational performance.

The HND builds on your Level 4 knowledge and develops your ability to apply sustainable business principles at a strategic level. You will move beyond operational understanding to analysing complex issues, managing change and influencing decision‑making.
You will explore:

• Organisational behaviour management—how individuals, teams and organisational culture influence performance, engagement and sustainable outcomes.
• Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) planning—how organisations design and implement sustainability strategies, set objectives and measure impact.
• CSR event management—planning and delivering projects and events that create measurable value for both organisations and communities.
• Principles of change management—how organisations respond to internal and external change, including sustainability drivers, and how to manage transition effectively.
• Developing individuals, teams and organisations—how high‑performance cultures are created through learning, development and professional practice.
• Budget management—how organisations plan, control and evaluate financial performance to support sustainable business decisions.
• Research project (Pearson‑set)—an independent, in‑depth investigation into a sustainability‑related topic, applying research methods, data analysis and critical evaluation.

On completion, you will be able to evaluate organisational performance, develop strategic responses to sustainability challenges and apply research‑informed solutions. You will leave with the analytical, professional and decision‑making skills expected in supervisory and management‑level roles within responsible business environments.
