About the Course

The Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Hospitality Management is designed for those seeking a practical, industry-focused curriculum in hospitality, while also providing career pathways into related fields such as tourism, business, and catering.

The curriculum blends theory and applied learning. You will explore how hospitality businesses operate, how to design and deliver excellent customer experiences, and how to manage accommodation and events. You will also develop essential business skills in marketing, finance, and leadership, with a focus on sustainability and ethical practice.

Learning is hands-on and engaging, with assignments based on real-world scenarios. You will gain experience in teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and digital literacy, preparing you for a wide range of entry-level and supervisory roles in hotels, restaurants, events, and tourism.

The HNC is recognised by employers and universities and provides a direct pathway to the HND or to the second year of a related degree.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of hospitality through five core units.

The units are:

  • The Contemporary Hospitality Industry
  • Managing the Customer Experience
  • Sustainable Hospitality Practice
  • The Hospitality Business Toolkit  
  • Leadership and Management for Hospitality

You will also study three further optional units:  

  • Managing Food and Beverage Operations
  • Managing Conference and Events
  • Marketing processes and planning

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a variety of assignments and activities, with a focus on the holistic development of practical, interpersonal, and higher-level thinking skills.

The assessment criteria for each unit connects the unit’s learning outcomes with your work. Your assignment may be graded at ‘Pass’, ‘Merit,’ or ‘Distinction’ level, depending on the quality of your work.
