University Centre Farnborough proudly celebrated the accomplishments of its 2025 graduates with a distinguished ceremony hosted at the impressive Guildford Cathedral. The event, the highlight of the academic year, drew a large and enthusiastic crowd comprised of graduates, their loved ones, and teaching staff.

Presiding over the ceremony were the Principal CEO, Virginia Barrett (OBE), Chair of the Corporation Dr Femi Oduneye, and University of Surrey Pro Chancellor Dato Dr Kim Tan. Adding a personal touch to the occasion, Paralympian and former student, Lucy Shuker, was the guest speaker, delivering a moving and motivational speech that struck a chord with both graduates and guests.
In her address, the Principal CEO commended the graduating cohort for their academic excellence, personal development, and the breadth of knowledge and skills they had cultivated during their time at the University Centre.
After the formalities concluded, the celebration continued on campus with a lively reception. Guests enjoyed drinks and a selection of canapés prepared by Farnborough College of Technology’s talented catering students. It was a joyful opportunity for graduates to connect, share memories, and express gratitude to staff and peers before parting ways.
Many graduates took the chance to reflect on their individual journeys, sharing stories of growth and looking ahead to the future with optimism.

Emma, a BA Early Years (Top-Up) student has always enjoyed working with children and decided to take the leap in order to improve her career prospects. Now she works with children’s services, where she applies her early years knowledge to support young children and make a difference to their lives. Speaking on why she enjoyed University Centre Farnborough, she shared: “I’ve had a really great time – I’ve made some really amazing friends and although it can be stressful juggling family life and assignments, I always look forward to my Thursdays here.”
PGCE Secondary with QTS student, Abdi Nasir, specialised in English and is already teaching at a local secondary school. He shared: “I’ve always been passionate about teaching and English is needed everywhere, so I thought ‘Why not go for it?’. I got really lucky with University Centre Farnborough – they gave me lots of opportunities and took my needs into consideration. I’m really grateful for the opportunities I got here.”

Maddy, who studied her level 3 at Farnborough College of Technology, went on to study her level 5 and level 7 in People Management with University Centre Farnborough. Following the completion of her level 7 course – equivalent to a master’s degree – she is now a HR Business Partner at Activate Learning. Maddy said: “The course was really good because you had a mix of people in completely different industries which is a great way to learn about different sectors and network.”
Tobias, who is now a teaching assistant at a school for children with special needs, said he particularly appreciated the small class sizes: “When I had difficulties with the course, I was able to get clarification and the help you receive is quite personalised as well.”

Reflecting on the day, Principal CEO, Virginia Barrett (OBE) remarked:
“This ceremony marks a heartfelt farewell to a remarkable cohort – their energy, dedication and achievements have shaped our classrooms and inspired us all. We send them off with our warmest wishes and the assurance that they will always remain part of the University Centre Farnborough family.”
Applications for the 2026 intake are now open, and the next open event will take place on 19 November 2025.
