NEW CHAIR OF CORPORATION APPROVES £10M DECARBONISING CAPITAL PROJECT

Farnborough College of Technology’s Board of Governors has selected a new Chair.

Dr Femi Oduneye has been voted into the role of Chair by the College’s Board of Governors, with Sarah Chapman also being voted in as its Vice Chair. Dr Oduneye replaces Professor Martin Earwicker as Chair.

Principal CEO Virginia Barrett said:

“I am delighted that the Board has appointed Femi as our new Chair. Femi’s leadership experience in the health sector, his ambition, and his interest in education makes him ideally suited to this key role.

“I also count myself as being very fortunate to have Martin as our previous Chair and on behalf of the Board, our staff, and our students I thank him for his extraordinary service to our outstanding College for 24 years.”

One of Dr Oduneye’s last actions as Vice Chair was to lead Board approval of a £10m Sustainability capital project that could see the College substantially decarbonised by 2026. The funding includes £4.8 grant funding from Salix, which administers decarbonisation schemes for the government, for which the College heard it was successful in its grant application in January 2023.

Principal CEO Virginia Barrett said:

“The College is thrilled to have received this funding that has accelerated its ambitions to be an environmentally and socially responsible organisation.”

In approving the project, Dr Oduneye summarized the sentiments of the Board that this is an exciting project which will further transform the College as part of the 10 year Property Strategy, with investment in decarbonisation technologies transitioning the College away from fossil fuels and significantly reducing its carbon footprint and energy usage.
