About the Course

The aim of this course is to develop thoughtful, highly skilled and ambitious fashion and textile creatives who understand the business attributes required to become successful and forward-thinking designers and makers.

You will gain an in-depth understanding of how the fashion and textile industry operates, explore sustainable and ethical production processes and develop collaborative skills through team working projects.


  • Explore a variety of fashion and textile disciplines including drawing techniques, patterncutting and garment construction processes, fashion illustration, CAD, printed, embroidered and constructed textile techniques.
  • Develop and understanding of sustainable and ethical fashion and textile processes.
  • Get an insight into the fashion and textile industry by attending guest lectures, previous visitors include Omar Mansoor, Vz Perfection and Eleanor Bret-Day.
  • Gain industry experience by undertaking a work placement, organisign your own end of course presentation and working behind the scenes at London Fashion Week/Top Model.
  • Set up your own label or fashion and textile company as part of your studies and gain an understanding of the business skills required to do this.


Studying at Farnborough will enable you to explore and refine a wide range of fashion and textile related skills. Tutors will encourage you to develop your own areas of interest and style whilst considering the environmental impact of your creative work.

You will be able to produce final outcomes focussed on fashion design, textile design, textile art or a combination of these disciplines and through the business study modules gain an understanding of the commercial factors that impact these creative industries. Setting up your own label or fashion/textile business will be explored as well as developing the professional skills required to obtain employment in the industry.

This accelerated degree allows you to save on tuition and living fees and start your career or masters course a year sooner.


This degree is aimed at learners who want to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of fashion, textiles and business with a view to working in these creative industries or setting up your own business.

You could be currently studying a creative Level 3, A Level, UAL Foundation or Foundation Art and Design course, be returning to education after a break or looking to change career direction.

What modules are covered?

On this programme, students will be given opportunities to develop patterncutting and garment construction techniques, printed, embroidered and constructed textile processes along with gaining an understanding of visual recording, computer aided design, sustainable and ethical creative processes, business and marketing practices. During the second year of the course, you will have the opportunity to focus your studies into your area of interest as well as undertaking collaborative work and completing a major personal project.

Applicants must have a portfolio of creative work showcasing their current design and creative skills and experience in a creative subject.
